'A Voyage to Botany Bay' by the celebrated George Barrington - $3,250
Stock# 120853

'with a Description of the Country and Manners. Customs. Religion etc. of the Natives'
Originally sold by H.D. Symonds for the Price Two Shillings and Sixpence.

George Barrington was a notorious criminal whose exploits had already been written up in the London press before he was transported to New South Wales in 1791. He is an unlikely author of this work which was probably ghosted by an anonymous hand seeking to exploit his notoriety. However it is extremely important work with one of the earliest accounts of life in the fledgling colony.

A rare edition published c.1795. The front cover has separated from the spine and there is some restoration required but the pages are clean if slightly toned.
